EUROMEDITERRANEAN ALIEN SPECIES

Alien species are considered as one of the most important factors that contribute to biodiversity loss and habitat degradation.
The Euromediterranean area is known for its particularly rich biodiversity as well as for the relatively high anthropization that has led to a severe decrease for many native habitats and species.
Euromediterranean Alien Species (EAS) aims at keeping the knowledge on alien species distribution as up-to-date as possible. This may turn out to be one of the key strategies for the struggle against the introduced invasives by providing data regarding which are the most common invaders together with the most invaded areas.

EAS focuses exclusively on alien species that are present in the Euromediterranean area as it is considered in the Euro+Med Plantbase:

Users can add observations of species that are considered alien even in just one country of the area of interest.

Archaeophytes are here considered as true aliens while observations of doubtfully alien species (cryptogenic) should not be added to the project.

Also observations of cultivated plants and animals in captivity should not be added to the project. less ↑
