Recreational scuba diving engages millions of divers worldwide. Diving can have negative impacts, notably due to damage or disturbance of habitats and organisms.
However, there are also up-sides! The diving industry generates large direct and indirect revenues for coastal communities and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), promotes ocean stewardship, and fosters social inclusion as well as personal development. Furthermore, diving can effectively contribute to scientific research. Here is the rationale behind this iNat-based citizen science initiative, stemming from Green Bubbles - the EU-funded project dedicated to sustainable SCUBA diving. Let's show the best side of scuba diving!
