Spartina (Spartina spp.) is an introduced maritime grass that colonises inter-tidal zones, forming dense clumps and trapping sediment. Spartina can cause an immense loss of biodiversity by turning mudflats that support wading birds, whitebait, eels and flounder into dry meadows.
