March's Record of the Month!

Spring is here! Thanks to ezmurtaugh for this month’s highlighted record (http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/1354109). Coltsfoot is one of our region’s earliest spring flowers. It was likely introduced to North America by early settlers for its perceived medicinal uses (though more recent research suggests it has toxic properties). The name coltsfoot refers to the shape of the leaves, but this unique flower has another name, “son before father”, because the flowers emerge before the plant’s leaves do. What’s your favorite harbinger of spring?
