Geographic Range

This species is known from California, Nevada, central Utah, Colorado, and southwestern Kansas in the USA, south to southern Baja California, northern Mexico (Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas), and central Mexico (Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Durango, Sanluis Potosí, Queretaro). It occurs at elevations up to about 1000m asl to 2240m asl. (Ramirez, A. Forum 2014)

Habitat

This species inhabits rocky canyons and gullies in deserts, grasslands, dry woodlands and pine-oak forests (Ramirez, A. person. comm. Forum 2014). It hides under rocks, in rock crevices, or underground when inactive. Eggs and larvae develop in shallow water in temporary rain pools, spring-fed pools, and pools along intermittent streams and the development is of the embryo is fast (Ramirez, A. & Santos, G. person. comm. Forum 2014).It is a noctural and crepuscular.

Habita en zonas de desierto, en matorral espinoso, bosque de encino. Se le encuentra en cuerpos de agua estancadas o con corrientes leves. Especie con hábitos terrestre, nocturna y crepuscular, común encontrarla cerca o dentro de los cuerpos de agua. Su reproducción es estacional, ocurre de abril a septiembre, que es en la estación de lluvias. El tamaño de la puesta de las hembras es de 2000 a 12,000 huevos. Su desarrollo larvarios es corto.

Es una especie, que donde se distribuye, sus poblaciones son abundantes. No es citada en la NOM-059-ECOL-2001 en alguna categoría de riesgo, y desde mi punto de vista, es acertado.
