This is a species that is not known very well. There are no studies of the population status of this species but it has been collected in central Mexico where apparently healthy populations exist.
Conversion of land for agricultural purposes is the major threat to this species, as well as the proximity of its habitats to urbanized areas. Pollution constitutes another threat.
Protection of the original ecological conditions is needed. Based upon species´ distribution model, suitable habitat for this species has 57% of remnant distributional range of natural vegetation cover in Mexico (equivalent to 20,517,538 ha), but is just represented in 6,8% in protected areas (6% governmental PA; 0,8% social private efforts). Ochoa-Ochoa, L. Urbina-Cardona, J.N., Flores-Villela, O., Vázquez, L-B and Bezaury-Creel, J. 2009. The Effects of Governmental Protected Areas and Social Initiatives for Land Protection on the Conservation of Mexican Amphibians. PLoS ONE: 4 (9): e6878 (Nicolás Urbina)
Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category.
