Taxonomic notes: Section empty
This species occurs from the north coast of Papua New Guinea from Manam Island eastward to Cape Vogel. It also occurs on the islands of the Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Islands (Zug 2004). The populations on Bougainville and Faisi Island in the Solomons are thought to be introduced (M. McCoy pers. comm. November 2011). This species probably occurs up to 500 m asl.
McCoy (2006) noted that this species was common in and around towns and grassy urban areas in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
This species tends to inhabit open areas with grass tussocks, and urban and disturbed areas of secondary growth. It is also an active terrestrial forager (McCoy 2006).
Carlia mysi has been assessed as Least Concern owing to its large distribution throughout Papua New Guinea and surrounding island groups, and its tolerance of modified habitats. No specific threats have been reported and this species is not likely to be undergoing significant population declines.
