The real bug is when we have a 'rule' specifying a field must be present and a 'required' attribute for that same field. So yes we can turn it back on if we omit that rule. (which I have just done)
Hmmm, interesting -added the required field back in and it automatically added a rule requiring that field, so what I thought was a belt and braces approach from us was actually something that the system was imposing. I have deleted the rule as it is counter productive and the cause of our problem. Issue is still open:https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/964
I just added an obs by @wild_wind of a puriri moth exuvia. Does it belong here, and if so would you like to add that category and perhaps change the Life stage from Adult, andLive to Dead? Or whatever you would like?

Temporarily removed the 'required' status for 'insect life stage' due to software bug that means everything needs to be added twice.
Is that bug still there? If not, should we turn that back on?
