Red-crowned Parrot Project

The primary purpose of this project is to raise awareness and document roosts, nests, and foraging behavior by Red-crowned Parrots along the Texas Mexico border. This population may be an important component of the remaining wild populations of Red-crowned Parrots. This project is part of a collaborative effort between TPWD and local universities. Through this research we hope to better understand:

-The size of the population, and if it is increasing or decreasing.
-Where this species nests, and if nest sites are a limitation to breeding.
-What they eat.

While the emphasis is the Texas Mexico border, people are welcome to add observations of any wild Red-crowned Parrots. In addition, the project is open to any species of parrot or parakeet in areas where Red-crowned Parrots are found. These observations will help document interactions between species, and provide confirmation of species identifications. less ↑
