Red Wasps are fraught with many problems when it comes to identification as two very similar species exist - P. carolina and P. rubiginosus. Except in a few color extremes, microscopic details are required to separate the two species. Red Wasps are fraught with many problems when it comes to identification as two very similar species exist - P. carolina and P. rubiginosus. Except in a few color extremes, microscopic details are required to separate the two species. Sadly, this means that a vast majority of photographs simply cannot be given a definite species-level identification.
Instead of leaving these observations stranded in identification purgatory, this project seeks (1) to help raise Red Wasp observations to Research Grade, (2) to provide an easy means of finding Red Wasp observations that have not been or cannot be identified to species, and (3) to help maintain the integrity of observations of these two species for any interested outside researchers.
