2 ½ years: 47,411 observations and 1,562 species.

I finally got some spare time to do the balance for the past 6 months. Since September 2019 we've increased the number of observations by 18.5% and the number of species by 4.1%. And the number of observers has grown by 17%, too.

On the other hand, the number of research grade observations has lowered from 82.5% to 80.9%, meaning we have to keep working on validating identifications. Luckily we have +8.3% volunteers contributing to that task!

The impact on the number of species was mostly due to the recent revisions of some families and genera which generated new species descriptions.

We've also seen an increase in the number of observations from South America and South Africa and even a few records from Western coast of Africa , namely from São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola.

Thanks to all who helped to achieve these numbers!

Right now the world lives under the menace of a pandemic which will most probably reduce the number of new observations. So, whether you are under forced or volunteered isolation, keep safe and take this time to look into your old records and add as much as you can. The more you add, the more knowledge we'll gather about these fantastic animals.
