Tutorial: How to add multiple observations to the project

@bobmcd has recently assembled a tutorial on how to add multiple observations to a project. This will make it easier for everyone to include their records without the need to go through each observation and individually adding it to the project:
Adding Observations to a Traditional Project

https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/adding-observations-to-a-traditional-project-wiki/13190

This will also be useful for those who have added many sea slug observations but aren't sure they are all included in the project.

For the Seaslugs of the World Project you'll want to filter your observations so only sea slugs are added so here are some basic filters which might help you:

  • Order Nudibranchia
  • Order Cephalaspidea
  • Order Aplysiida
  • Order Umbraculida
  • Order Pleurobranchida
  • Superorder Sacoglossa

@jpsilva I just joined and added three that I have.

Knowing that:
Order Nudibranchia - taxon_id=47113
Order Cephalaspidea - taxon_id=49784
Order Aplysiida - taxon_id=775804
Order Umbraculida - taxon_id=495793
Order Pleurobranchida - taxon_id=775833
Superorder Sacoglossa - taxon_id=47801

I created the following string: &taxon-ids=47113,49784,775804,495793,775833,47801

And in my initial search instead of limiting place as I did in the tutorial, I replaced the URL with the following search:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/bobmcd?not_in_project=seaslugs-of-the-world&place_id=any&verifiable=any&taxon_ids=47113,49784,775804,495793,775833,47801

Another member could run this same search but just remember to replace the username bobmcd with their own.

Cheers, Bob

Why not convert this to a collections project? Then it will automatically show all Nudis.

Thanks, @tonyrebelo . I agree and that's what I've done with my local project Sea Slugs of Portugal (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/sea-slugs-of-portugal).
That will have to be agreed by the admin (@sascha_schulz) and done by one of the managers (@hsini_lin, @drmattnimbs , @anudibranchmom ) as curators cannot change the project settings. Also the taxonomic filters will have to be changed. These are the ones I'm using for the Sea Slugs of Portugal project:

Order Aplysiida
Order Cephalaspidea
Order Nudibranchia
Order Pleurobranchida
Superorder Sacoglossa
Order Umbraculida

Calling also on the other curators to give their opinion on this: @@richardling , @whodden , @v_s_ , @bernardpicton , @jim-anderson .

Looks good to me.

I thought it already WAS a collections project 😆 so if @sascha_schulz wants to change it, I’m completely fine with that.

I think I changed JP to be the admin. Not really sure. Been off sick a few days every week now for a year....

Posted by sascha_schulz almost 3 years ago

Yes, fine with me. I think when it was started collections projects were not a thing.

Posted by bernardpicton almost 3 years ago

Sorry to hear that, @sascha_schulz. Hope you get well soon!

Let's wait for @hsini_lin , @drmattnimbs , @richardling, @whodden and @v_s_ 's opinions. I'll do the change by the weekend.

It's far easier than I thought so I went through with it. The number of records doubled instantly.

Posted by jpsilva almost 3 years ago

@jpsilva I'm good with that too

Posted by drmattnimbs almost 3 years ago

@jpsilva Fine with me too.

@sascha_schulz Hope you get well soon! Hugs.

Thank you all! Glad the project and nudi knowledge has soo many brilliant humans involved. Just sorry I cant spend the time this field deserves to keep pushing it forward. :-(
