Little is known about the San Gabriel Chestnut snail other than it has a very limited habitat that has, historically, been reduced by anthropogenic development (housing, roads, etc. ). On November 14, the Center of Biological Diversity sent a petition to the US Department of the Interior and US Fish and Wildlife Service to list this species as endangered.
The observations from this project are some of, if not the only known records of this snail in the last 35 years!
Congratulations SLIME participants, especially Cedric Lee and James Bailey.

The Chestnuts are such lovely snails, and all the native snails that are endemic to the chaparral areas are really amazing creatures. We should work to get proper protection for all of them!
Thanks, Susan. Indeed.
I will share this on social media during Citizen Science Day (April 14)! This is a powerful story!
Any update on this? What's the current status of this development?
