To Catalog the Flora and Fauna of Albania

Step 1 : Introduce the concepts of biodiversity with a short video during an environmental education class.

Step 2:Identify and map out the site where the field exercise will take place.

Step 3: Conduct the field activity and side events
The ‘Discovery Zone’ within our area will be created, (i) the ‘Woodland Explorers zone’ included a tree trail and leaf litter sorting and we will have a “Bug catching activity “. A list of the expected species to be identified will be prepared before the field exercise.
Drop in activities (ice breakers):
• Leaf Herbarium stand- example specimens from your flora station.
• Microscopes always draw a lot of interest, especially if linked to a laptop. The monitor can help you explain what is being looked at, and several people can interact at once. Analysing a sample of pond water, a sample of soil, etc.
• Wildlife-related stands
• Information area – Stand with UN related activities concerning the environment
Learning Objectives

Step 4 : Discuss the findings and Final Assessment
Students will write a summary of their experience, responding to some of this questions:
How many species were found?
What species were found where?
In what types of habitats were species found?
What species were found near one another?
What abiotic factors may have had an effect on species found?
How could the group’s research methods have impacted the species found?
What would you do differently if you were to conduct another species monitoring?
Evaluate their summaries based on their understanding of their findings, new insights into their local surroundings, and ideas for future species inventories. less ↑
