UCSC Wild Turkeys

We at the Norris Center are working on a project to measure the size of the wild turkey population on the UCSC campus, as well as learn what they are eating, where they are roosting, and where they are breeding. We would like to recruit you, the citizen scientists, to help us record where wild turkeys are being seen on campus, how many there are, and what they appear to be doing. Turkeys are a new edition to our campus landscape, and they are an introduced species to California, so we are hoping to continue to measure and monitor the population of wild turkeys on campus in the coming years. By doing this type of study, we will be able to see if the turkey populations are increasing, and if so, how quickly. In the future, this information may be able to help to understand how the turkeys are affecting the campus ecosystems, and if and how they are also affecting other things that live on campus.
