Send your GoPro or other action camera and any instrumentation (such as a CTD) where you can’t go. The ultra-low-cost autonomous Sea Rocket travels vertically from the surface of the water to the bottom and back up collecting data and taking video along the way. Be the first to collect stills and videos of the water column and bottom of any body of water. You can deploy the Sea Rocket from a dock or small boat then share what you discovered with others.
Eyes-on, visual data is a critical assessment tool for determining sediment type, flora and fauna presence, habit type, presence of pollution such as plastics and derelict fishing gear, pre-dredging conditions and any other question that you have about the seafloor or lake bottom that a video would help answer.
These observations are in critically needed since more than 70% of our planet is covered by the still almost unexplored ocean (more than 90% is unexplored!). We have little to no visual or water column baseline data for what’s under the surface of our ocean, lakes and ponds. The race is on to collect data before mineral extraction, pollution, overfishing and habitat destruction create irreversible damage. Exploration before exploitation.
