Wing deformations and venation aberrations.

This project was initiated to gather observations that show insects with anomalies in wing structure.

While I was pinning some specimens, I noticed multiple cases of reduced wing venation. Additionally, I saw several respective iNat observations already from this year (2021). Before, I have rarely seen any example of this phenomenon.

Collecting suitable observations could help us to better understand the phenomenon. Perhaps interesting correlations with abiotic factors will emerge. For example, studies show an effect of temperature on the development of such aberrations.

Cases of deformed wings such like those DWV produces are also welcome. There is increasing evidence that DWV does not only infect honey bees, but also other species. Although DWV cannot be identified morphologically since most cases of deformed wings are due to failures in development (or ongoing unfolding), collecting respective observations could help to find new candidate species that might be affected.
