The Margate Terrapin Rescue Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to the conservation of local Diamondback Terrapin populations through the use of roadside barriers, daily patrols and education outreach.

To help protect the local terrapin populations, various types of roadside barriers have been installed over the years. Data has been collected to measure the effectiveness of the barriers. This data, which includes locations of terrapin fatalities, has been collected by numerous volunteers in an effort to reduce the overall terrapin road mortality rates.

This application is used to assist our volunteers in collecting, inputting and recording data which was otherwise done via paper and pencil.

The goal is to have comprehensive, research-grade data collected by local community volunteers to help bridge the gap between scientists, Diamondback Terrapin research and the community.

Our focus area is the Margate Causeway also known as Downbeach Express which is a privately owned roadway that connects Northfield to Margate City. We are also expanding the data collection to the Somers Point-Longport Boulevard.
