CNC wrap up and ID week

Hi all,

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken part in the City Nature Challenge so far, the weekend was a huge success and the increase in observations from last year has been incredible! So far we have 4326 observations, 903 species, 75 observers and 228 identifiers, compared to 2667 observations, 692 species, 80 observers and 335 identifiers last year. This has contributed to a global total of over 2.1 million observations so far!

But this isn't the end of the City Nature Challenge, we still have time to get our numbers up as we are now in the uploading and identification period. We have until 9 am on Monday, May 6th to get all of our observations uploaded and as many species identified and research grade as possible, this can include uploading any photos you took from April 26th - April 29th.

As part of the challenge we’re really hoping to mainly document wild plants and animals, so if you did make observations of organisms they know are not wild, i.e. house plants or pets, please mark them as captive/cultivated. Or, if you see someone else has recorded a domestic species, you can also mark anyone’s observation as not wild in the Data Quality Assessment section on the bottom of the observation, if you're using the website.

Once again, congratulations to everyone who took part! Together, we've made a comprehensive map of nature in our city which will inform how we protect these species. We hope you had fun exploring your local environments in the process!

Remember, iNaturalist works any day of the year, so don't forget to keep recording in your everyday life!
