Let's put the conservation of pollinators at the forefront of our efforts

The stability and resilience of ecosystems is contributed to by pollinators enhancing plant reproduction, promoting genetic diversity, and supporting ecosystem functions - the functions occur in ways such as nutrient cycling, soil formation, and carbon sequestration. Healthy populations of pollinators indicate healthy ecosystems that provide adequate resources, suitable habitat, and a balanced ecosystem. Conserving pollinator species and their habitats enhances ecosystem resilience to cl...

Welcome!

This project is just getting going. Please add any observations you or others have of insects on hilltops and invite anyone who might want to contribute. The goal is to expand our knowledge of the insects that hilltop and which hills they love. My inspiration for this project comes from seeing hordes of ladybugs looking very out of place on a glaciated peak in the North Cascades in 2011. Since then I've been seeing lots of fun flies and butterflies atop peaks in the Rockies.

Possible emails to members from iNaturalist

Dear ARMN Observations members, earlier today I briefly tweaked the project to only cover April 26-29 for long enough so I could gather some City Nature Challenge 2024 statistics. I then reset the project to cover "All Dates" as was the case before. In other words, nothing is changed! However, you may receive an email from iNaturalist alerting you that there was a change. They err on the side of caution because some project changes could affect a member's observation privacy settings. Th...

Kingies at Keystone

In 2023 we saw up to eight(?) quite young E. cibarius all adorably hanging out on a boulder. As of 2024, they are gone from there, but new sightings suggest the possibility that one or more of them continues to inhabit the jetty! Please contribute more sightings, thoughts and info.

Questions about climate, balance, and humans

Monday, May 6th, 2024
9:09 am
Raining. I've been thinking a lot about balance. I wonder if everything the Earth does is to keep things in balance, even extreme weather. I also wonder if that balance changes over time. Or is there a balance at all? Is the climate just going haywire until it settles again?
Where I live we have ponderosa pines just about everywhere. They have been struggling with drought for years now. How much rain would it take to bring things into balance? ...
