Well that was a wet one! And it looks like it will be a windy one today. Here's some highlights from what has been posted already.
Good Luck everyone this weekend! Day 1 has some flurries in the morning and it was a bit cold on the hands trying to navigate the cameras. We are doing well so far in terms of observations (~2300 at the time of this post). I feel optimistic that we could get close to the 10K mark this weekend but it's always a soft guess as I have no idea how many people are sitting on un-uploaded observations. Do you have a strategy for uploading your observations or just get em up when you can? During ...
Day 1 was rainy, but there was still lots to find! Many thanks to all who are recording Utah's unique biodiversity - it is exciting to see your great observations coming through! 3 More days of the City Nature Challenge - what else will you find!?
Here are just a few highlights from yesterday:

Please make sure when you upload to group photos of the same sighting in one observation.
Remember, if you accidentally upload multiple observations of the same species, taken at the same place and time it will skew the data.
Happy snapping.
Hey all!
The city nature challenge began yesterday morning and runs through Monday evening. If you're able - get out and report some observations.
This is an international event attracting iNat observations from countries all over the world. Join in on this worldwide bioblitz by submitting observations and helping ID others' observations. If you use iNat with a DSLR, you have until next Saturday to upload your observations to be counted in the event.

We're off to a great start to this year's City Nature Challenge in San Diego County.
On the first day, we had over 1000 species observed and nearly 3500 observations.
We're lucky to live in such a biodiverse part of the world, where there are opportunities to see something fascinating wherever we are in the county!
One of our top marine observers, @tidepooltales, submitted grea...
Wow! The 2024 Ada County City Nature Challenge is off to a fantastic start! Collectively 100 participants have documented 342 species across the county! It looks like the weather will be perfect to get out exploring again today. Did you know that Ada County is one of dozens of communities competing in the 2024 CNC Northern Rocky Mountain Biodiversity Challenge? Currently we are in second place behind Division 6 AB. Let's keep the observations going!

The Bronx is leading with observations in the Battle of the Boroughs. But Queens is leading with species!
2023 had our most ever April observations (367), counties (46), and species (20).
So far for 2024, we now have the most observations (420+) and the most counties (50+ so far). We're just short on species (19). Still waiting on Southern Spreadwing, Painted Skimmer, Blue Dasher, Skimming Bluet, Red Saddlebags, and Lancet Clubtail - these have all April records in the last three years.
Our final April days include warm weather and and a weekend - both good signs for submissi...

Heyo, fly folk!
We will NOT be having an organized Zoom workshop tonight, but the meeting room will be open if anyone wants to join (so long as Erika doesn't need her account; I won't be there).
My goal for you all this week is to help fix the Evidence of Presence for at least 15 of these observations:
The very first challenge our area is taking part in and a big thank you to all that is joining in.
We had a pretty good start yesterday. So let's keep that momentum going. After day 1, we have collectively seen over 1000 species and have had 285 people take part! Individually, we have young @petermhoughton leading the observations category with nearly 400 observations, and @conboy with an amazing single-day species tall...
We have an intruder alert!
The male kestrel flies (or runs, if you prefer) out of the nest because a few jackdaws landed thoughtlessly just five meters away. Not only did they land, but they also started an unplanned squawk that echoed throughout the area. With the female nearby, it's time to demonstrate vigilance, strength, and quick response!
Kia ora Wellington region,
I'm echoing @julialouise1012 's comment, but well done with our start to the City Nature Challenge 2024! As I write this on Saturday evening, the Wellington region has got a bit of a lead over Christchurch for numbers of observations and species. B...
We had glorious weather for Day 1 of the #citynaturechallenge2024!
Over 6100 nature observations of 1100+ species were made by more than 500 people in the DC metro area.

Invasive species are a threat to blueberries and bird vetch is an invasive one that can invade undisturbed areas that most other invasive species do not (Rader). Do not use a rake of any kind to harvest the blueberries, it may be swifter, but you invariably damage the plant and can reduce the harvest of next year as the berry buds can start forming as early as late June for the Vaccinium uliginosum L. (Rader). Bees help improve pollination and fruit production from blueberry bushes (Rade...

Amazing work from everyone involved and the weather has certainly agreed to play nice. Both events that I've been to over the weekend have had huge attendance - around 40 at Ōtari and I lost count, but possibly 70+ out rock pooling this morning in Island Bay.
Wishing everyone good luck tomorrow whether you're doing you're running an event, helping out at one, or exploring your local area.
There are so many cities taking part in the challenge this year so they've split us into t...
We're off to a great start, and hot on the heels of Wellington. It's fantastic to see so many people out and about across Ōtautahi-Christchurch making observations!
I just made a new project on iNaturalist NZ that brings together all of the Hoake ki te Taiao-City Nature Challenge events at Ōtautahi-Christchurch, New Zealand. You can look there to see how are totals are going compared with past events.

Hi everyone,
Congratulations on an AWESOME first day of our City Nature Challenge! Nearly 60 people made observations yesterday, with over 280 species observed as of midnight. You all blew our expectations out of the water - thank you so much for your enthusiastic participation!
We are especially excited to see that people are making observations across both counties, including lots of great observations at the shore. Here are just of few of our favorite observations fro...
