Description: The Barred Owl is a large round-headed owl with a brown and white body and streaky bars on the chest, and a golden yellow beak. Barred Owls roast by day and hunt small mammals at night. Barred Owls have a distinctive call “Who cooks for you”.

Habitat: Mature deciduous and coniferous forests.

Fun Facts: Barred Owls are shifting their range to the west and displacing the less aggressive Spotted Owl. Some California parks, have actually advocated shooting Barred Owls to bring the Spotted Owls back.
