Amphibious caddisfly

Desmona bethula

Identification 2

Caddisflies are consumers because they eat plants to get their energy. Larvae only eat dead plants like dead leaves from the trees around the vernal pool. Adult caddisflies don't eat. Some of their predators are birds, frogs, water striders and trout.

Niche 2

Adult caddisflies look a lot like moth but their wings are smoother and partly see through. They are about 2 centimeters, some less than that and some 2 times that size. Caddisfly larvae look like grubs: a short fat, creamy white worm-like creature.with a dark head, and are mostly hidden in protective casings on the bottom of a lake. They crawl around slowly dragging their casings around with them.
