Identification:
A bufflehead duck has a oval-shaped head. Males tend to have green and purple on their heads with a white patch going across the back of their heads. Their bellies are usually white or a light color. Females are usually a dark color with a light grey belly and a white patch just under the eye on the cheek. They are fairly small ducks with wide bills. Bufflehead males weigh approximately 1 pound. Females weigh an average of 11 ounces.

Niche:
The Bufflehead eats insects, seeds, and plants.
The Bufflehead duck is consumer. It’s a consumer because it feeds on plants and sometimes small animals.
It is an omnivore.
It’s predators are mostly humans, because they hunt them.

They breed near lakes. Sometimes, Bufflehead ducks will stay with the same mate for many years. Females will lay 6-12 eggs in their soft down nests. They tend to build their nests near the water in old woodpecker holes.
