Ambigolimax valentianus (previously known as Lehmannia valentiana) is a species of air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Limacidae.
Global Range: (>2,500,000 square km (greater than 1,000,000 square miles)) It is found in Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, the United States (incl. Hawaii), South Africa, South America, and the Pacific islands of Rapa Nui and Juan Fernandes (Forsyth, 2004), but is native to the Iberian Peninsula in Europe (Roth and Sadeghian, 2003).
Apparently a very common garden slug. Lehmannia marginata is similar but not yet reported from SF, though it could easily pop up. It should have a light line running down the top of its tail (McDonnell et al., 2009).
