Tip of the pinna rachis with a very well developed appendage, very acuminate, in the shape of a bird's head; pinnae 6 - 13 (-17) pairs; leaflets (12-)18 - 38 pairs, not larger than 6.5 1.3 mm; Stamens (20-) 30 - 40 mm, pink towards the apex; pods appearing glabrous or almost so to the naked eye.
Up to 100 m.
A. bernieri resembles A. polyphylla . The distinctive 'bird's head' shaped mucro at the apices of the pinna-rachises is characteristic of A. bernieri , although it is also found to a much reduced extent in A. polyphylla .
