Monopodial growth. Leaf bases forming short trunk. Frond, up to 3 m long; upper part of rachis with pinnate leaves, lower part only covert by spines. Cone ovoid, 30-60 x 11-20 cm, with short peduncle. Microsporophyll 3.5-5 x 8-16 cm; microsporangium clustered by 4- 5. Seeds 4- 6 cm long, ovoid to oblate.
