Underground parts with shrivelled tubers at end of ticker roots. leaves mid to dark green above depending on age, pale below, leaf bases and margins, ligules, scapes and bracts pinkish-purple. Flowers 3 cm long; Calyx 3-4 mm long, obselate and obtus; Corolla lanceolate to oblanceolate. Fruit bright green or with purple spotting, tepal remnants pink, 8 x 6 mm.
