Doc's Aeolid

Catriona rickettsi

Notable Features 2

Doc's Aeolid (Catriona rickettsi) looks very, very, very similar to its cousin C. columbiana - and in fact may be the same species, as recent research appears to indicate. As presently described, C. rickettsi is primarily beige and does not have any white speckling on the leading edge of its cerata. This rare aeolid is described from Northern California and is named after marine biologist and author Ed Ricketts (1897-1948).

Another similar undescribed aeolid is found in Southern California; this one has brighter coloring (orange). For now, this undescribed slug has been called "Tenellia sp./Catriona Group" by Terry Gosliner.
