The Cherry-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum internum) is a dragonfly of the genus Sympetrum. It is found across northern and central United States and most of Canada, including southern portions of the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Its abdomen is brown, turning dark red at maturity in both sexes. The sides of the abdomen are marked with black triangles and the legs are black. General description 8

Approximately 3 cm red meadowhawk with reddish face, yellowish wing bases, and black legs. Black stripes are found on the lateral sides of abdomen. Males have red eyes whereas females have brownish red eyes. Immatures have yellowish face and yellowish brown body. Both the face and the body turn red as they reach maturity (Paulson 2009).
