Zerene eurydice, the California dogface butterfly, is sometimes placed in the related genus as Colias eurydice. It is endemic to California, and its state insect insignia.

Resident in California (Scott 1986). Habitats are CHAPARRAL AND OAK/ CONIFEROUS FORESTS. Host plants are usually herbaceous with hosts largely restricted to a few species in one family, LEGUMINOSAE. Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Individuals overwinter as X. There are multiple flights each year with the approximate flight time FEB1-DEC31 (Scott 1986).
