Chicken Turtle

Deirochelys reticularia

Chicken Turtle 2

The Chicken Turtle is an uncommon turtle in ponds at the Arboretum. While similar in appearance to the common Red-eared Slider, this species has a much longer neck - the neck is as long as the whole body. This dark olive turtle has yellow stripes on its face and one large yellow stripe on each leg. It also has a pale, net-like pattern on its smooth, pear-shaped shell.
