River Cooter

Pseudemys concinna

River Cooter 2

The River Cooter is an uncommon turtle species at the Arboretum, most likely to be seen in Buffalo Bayou. Similar in appearance to Red-eared Sliders, River Cooters lack the red ear patches, have low, smooth shells, and a distinctive yellow chin stripe that looks like a "Y."
