Gulf Coast Toad

Incilius nebulifer

Gulf Coast/Coastal Plains Toad 2

The Coastal Plains Toad is the most common toad species at the Arboretum and in the city of Houston. While it is often found in coastal prairie, it is a highly adaptable species and can tolerate a wide range of habitats including yards and gardens. It eats any prey small enough to fit in its mouth, including slugs, beetles, and small vertebrates. The male's call is a flat, raspy trill lasting 2-6 seconds. Recordings of the call can be found here: http://www.californiaherps.com/noncal/misc/miscfrogs/pages/i.nebulifer.sounds.html
