Cymbopogon (lemongrass) is a genus of about 45 species of grasses, (of which the type species is Cymbopogon citratus, a natural and soft tea anxiolytic) native to warm temperate and tropical regions of the Old World and Oceania.

In the Playford area, it has blue green thin leaves at the base of the plant. Has long seed heads which are a dull white and fluffy seeds. Leaf blades usually rolled and narrow to filiform (thread like), 5-45cm long and 0.5-1mm broad.
Inflorescence has groups of spikelets largely concealed by long hairs and racemes are more or less erect. Sessile spikelets.
One defining feature is that the plant has a lemon scent.
