"Annual with a shallow, fibrous rootstock; stem erect, to 30 cm high, sharply 4-angular, occasionally ribbed at angles, branched in the upper half, the branches usually obliquely erect. Leaves broadly ovate, 1.6-5.8 x 1.2-3.4 cm, cuneate or truncate and 5-nerved at base, subacute to obtuse; petioles 0.3-1.8 cm long. Cymes terminal, occasionally axillary. Pedicels 4-20 mm long, slightly curved. Cayx tube to 3 mm long; lobes 4, lanceolate, 4-5 mm long, very acute; wings in fruit semicordate, 2-3 mm wide, strongly nerved. Corolla pale to bright blue; tube 2.4-3 mm long, inflated at base; lobes 4, obliquely erect, oblong to ovate-oblong, 4.5-6 x 2.5-3 mm, acute to subacute. Stamens alternate with corolla lobes; anthers uniformly broad to apex, 2.75-5 mm long, the lobes dehiscing laterally. Stigma simple. Capsule globose, to 5 mm in diam."
