Habitat and Range 3

Grows on rocks in the middle intertidal, occasionally lower, from British Columbia to Isle Cedros, Baja California. Not as common south of San Luis Obispo County as northward.

Morphology and Identification 3

The thallus of Mazzaella affinis is small (up to 15 cm, usually 4 to 8 cm) and bushy, appearing green to purplish to black. Dichotomous branching, especially at the tips, usually with blades convex/concave.
