Geographical Range and Habitat 4

Found in subtidal (7-20m in depth) from British Columbia to Baja (MAC). Rare in low intertidal.

Important understory kelp species in kelp forests.

Identification and morphology 4

Thalli reaching 2.3 m. Stipe is cylindrical at the base, flattened near upper portion, and unbranched (up to 1.5 m). The stipe is a woody texture, holdfast is short and hapterous. One blade arises from the tip of the stipe and the rest of the blades arise from the sides of the stipe.
