Habitat and Range 3

Commonly found growing on rocks from the middle intertidal zone down to 20 m subtidally, from Santa Barbara, CA to Isla Magdalena, Baja CA and Revillagigedo island, Baja CA.

Morphology and Identification 3

Pterocladiella capillacea is very similar to Gelidium robustum and Gelidium coulteri except P. capillacea has broader and much more delicate branches which are often flatter and more regularly branched. The tips of the branches are also rounder than G. coulteri.

Thallus can grow up to 30 cm tall (usually 10 - 20 cm) with regular distichous branching. Featherlike appearance.
