Scytosiphon lomentaria

Habitat and range 2

Scytosiphon lomentaria is usually a winter/spring annual and most often found in mid-intertidal habitats on freshly disturbed surfaces. Ranges from Bering Sea to Baja California (MAC).

Morphology and identification 2

Thalli consisting of clumps of golden to dark brown cylindrical, unbranched tubes, often with constrictions that produce an intestine-like appearance. Some flattened, ribbon morphologies (resembling Petalonia) can form if tubes are torn open but are usually found growing next to tube morphology.
