Morphology and Identification 3

Morphology and Identification
Corallina pinnatifolia is an articulated coralline with a disk-shaped crustose holdfast. Its color is a whitish-pink and usually grows between 7-10 cm tall but is often more broad than tall. This species has dense pinnate branching that appear “fan-like”, with flattened lobed (sometimes irregular) branches on nearly every segment. Tips of branches line up in roughly parallel series while those of C. vancouveriensis is radially branched, and appear like small rosettes. This species is also polymorphic and commonly found in compact clumps. Compared to C. offinalis and C. vancouveriensis, C. pinnatifolia is much shorter and has broader, with more dense branching.
