Gelidium robustum

Habitat and Range 3

Resides on rocks in the low intertidal to subtidal. Found infrequently from British Columbia to northern California and commonly in the rest of California to Isle Magdalena, Baja California.

Morphology and Identification 3

Gelidium robustum is often covered with white encrusting Bryozoans which makes it fairly easy to identify. It is the largest (up to 40 cm tall) and coarsest of the Gelidiums. Red to dark reddish-purple in color. Branches are minimal near the base.
