Description 3

Variation: spectabolis.
Deep purplish red saxicolous thalli with distichous flattened branches and naked lower portion.
Mostly symmetrical compressed branching with broadly rounded apices (spatulate).
Found in the mid to low intertidal zone.

Habitat and Range 4

Found growing on rocks in the middle intertidal to lower intertidal zones from Sitka, Alaska, to Baja California.

Morphology and Identification 4

Usually grows to about 20 cm, deep purplish-red or reddish-brown in color. There are several variations of this species.

Previously named Laurencia spectabilis.
