Homework #5

I took a hike on the Claremont trail in Berkeley and made some interesting observations. At the beginning of the hike, I began to notice some tiny creatures occupying the trails and showing up over and over again. After my friend almost stepped on one, we took a closer look and noticed that it was a snail. We observed a good number of brown snails.

Halfway through the hike, we started seeing brown snails with black spots on them. Refer to the attached pictures to see them. It was nice to see some variation in these snails.

We also observed quite a good number of black caterpillars with orange spots on them. These caterpillars were also quite pervasive on the Claremont trail. The exciting thing about this hike was that I did the same trail no longer than two weeks ago and had not observed any snails or caterpillars.
