A handsome Coachwhip. It was close to 4' long and very fast. It has a black patch behind it's head and a rose colored underside.
I relocated it to the foothills to keep it from getting run over in the street where it was first spotted.

Thats a coachwhip - a much rarer snake than a gopher snake! They sometimes have that black behind the neck but the give away is the way the tail looks braided like a whip. Nice find!
When I caught it I assumed it was a gopher snake mostly because of the shape and the rattling of the tail like a gopher snake dose. After thinking about it for a day or so and the speed at which it could move I was going to see about if it may be a Coachwhip. It also, for lack of a better word, jumped into the air trying to scale a retaining wall while getting away from me, I have never seen a snake do that before. Thanks so much to the folks for identifying it for me.
