Interesting - I remember the first time I encountred a beaver in the wild, over in Eastern Washington, I was quite surprised at how large it was. Having grown up in New York and New Jersey, I had visions of something a little larger than a muskrat... the one I saw was much larger.

Yeah, they can be enormous. I slept on my drifting raft through a flatwater section of the Colorado River once. Couldn't believe how loud and large all the beaver slapping and splashing was...I'd never seen an actual beaver during the day.
