I think you're just a little off with your location. I used to live in that building right there (before it burned down) and spent a lot of time mapping vegetation in that area. There is definitely greenbark ceanothus in that canyon including lots to the north and one or two lonely bushes at the mouth of Dry Canyon but I never saw any on that particular slope. It rarely grows on south-facing slopes in this area.
