Description

Big Black bear, curious of the camera we left on a table while we went to dinner. Location: Carnation Wa, a residential forested plot of land, 30 yr old douglas-fir stand planted by weyerhaueser, with a logging road adjacent and open area in the middle. Deer are common. western hemlock vegetation.

what makes the subspecies olympic black bear?

Hey Robert, that was purely based on location. I was researching what the historic divisions of subspecies were for some North American mammals. But as I've found, most subspecies (mammalian at least) are based on geography or dated ideas, or at least can't be determined based on photos. So I'm going to roll it back up to a species ID, which is easily done for most North American bears!
