Based on location, leaf shape (linear rather than oblanceolate), and the spreading, rather than reflexed, trophophylls, I think this is actually a rock firmoss.

No problem. It's special for me, because I'm near the northern end of its range. The more common shining firmoss (H. lucidula) has leaves widest above the middle and a few teeth at the edge, whereas H. porophila has leaves widest below the middle and small to indistinct teeth. It's almost always found on wet sandstone. There's a hybrid between them, too (H. x bartleyi), but trying to ID the hybrids involves either looking at the spores under a microscope to see if they're misshapen or examining the leaves to see how dense the stomata are above and below, which is almost as bad.
