I have never seen a fern like this in Washington! Unfortunately it was the only one in the area. It's located next to a stream at the entrance of the park. I noticed other plants that may have been carried from a horticultural nursery down the highway. You never know what's native!

It looks like Adiantum pedatum of the east, which is not native for you. I'm not sure what other natives that you have other than Adiantum aleuticum, which does not fan out as nicely
Shoot - thanks everett, I meant Adiantum aleuticum (which is the only five-fingered fern in Washington: http://www.wnps.org/photogallery_ferns.html ) and not A. pedatum.
I've definitely seen ones here in Northern CA that look like the photograph.
Yes, I assume that it's more splayed out in the shade. Here in the east we only get this species on serpentine.
